Jim Thome 600 Club

 

Last night Minnesota Twins DH Jim Thome got himself a spot in the 600 career Home Runs club, He hit it at Comerica Park, versus the Detroit Tigers, the pitcher was Daniel Schlereth.
It Took him 2456 games to get to that milestone.
Also Known as The Lumberjack because of the way he swings the bat, Jim Thome got to the Majors Playing 1st base for the Celveland Indians in 1991 and stayed there for 10 years, he has also played for the  Phillies, White Sox, LA Dodgers and his current team the Twins; I remember that group of great players on the Indians Roster: David Justice, Manny Rmirez, Roberto Alomar, Omar Vizquel, Juan Gonzalez, and Thome himself.
 

This guy has a very powerful long swing, which crushes anything that gets in the way, he started his career playing the 1st base, but the last couple of years he has occupied the DH spot on the Twins line-up.
With 2263 career hits, 600 HR and 1662 RBI, I am pretty sure that he is going to be in cooperstown.
There are only 8 players who have hit 600 Homers in their careers: Barry Bonds, Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr, Alex Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa and now Thome.

El Spring Trainning ha comenzado, este es el momento cuando todos los contadores están en cero, el momento cuando cada equipo tiene oportunidad de ganarlo todo, cada uno va a los campos en Arizona y la Florida a alistarse para la nueva temporada; Algunos jugadores están intentando hacer a un equipo de MLB por primera vez, otros han estado allí por un tiempo y ya tienen su lugar en el roster, otros tienen una nueva oportunidad de volver a las mayores despues de haber jugado en otras ligas; Hay jugadores que visten nuevos uniformes, algunos fueron cambiados, otros firmados como agentes libres, algunos ni siquiera tienen  contrato todavía, algunos están intentando mejorar los números de la temporada anterior, otros quieren mantenerlos arriba , algunos van por cifras record que les consigan un lugar en historia del béisbol, algunos todavía se están recuperando de lesiones y comenzarán la temporada más adelante, y para algunos jugadores éste va a ser su ultima temporada. Cualqueira sea el caso, todos los fanaticos y gente de los medios relacionada con el beisbol están haciendo sus predicciones y analisis sobre lo que viene en  los proximos meses. ¿Así pues, cuáles son sus expectativas? de que equipo eres fanatico? ¿hasta dónde llegara este año?

So the Spring Trainning has begun, this is the moment when the all the W-L Counters are at zero, the moment when every team has a chance to win it all, everyone is going to the fields at Arizona and Florida to get ready for the new season; Some players are trying to make an MLB team for the first time, others have been there for awhile and already have their spot in the roster, others are getting a new chance to come back to the majors after a while playing in other leagues; There are players wearing new uniforms, some were traded, some signed as free agents, some don't even have a contract yet, some are trying to raise numbers they had last season, others just want to keep them up, some are going for milestones to get a place in baseball history, some are still recovering from injuries and will start the season later, and for some players this is going to be the last one.
Whatever the case is, all the baseball fans and people from the baseball media are making their predictions and analisis about what's coming for the next months in baseball.

Hernandez, Cy Young??

The Seatlle Mariners Ace Felix Hernandez has been the best American League pitcher this year, that is for sure,  that is what his personal stats show, unfortunately for him, his team is among the worst offesinve teams in MLB, and we can confirm that just by taking a glance at Jose Lopez BA who is one of the most important hitters in that team, it is 240, the only exception we can do is Ichiro, who hit 200 hits for 10th season in a row; However it is incredible the lack of offensive support Felix has had, he is the SO and ERA leader in the AL.
You see it as a paradox that hi has 13 wins and 12 losses when you check his personal statistics, but the good luck has not been with him.

  

Last Year the Venezuelan Pitcher was 2nd in the Cy Young voting behind Zack Greinke who no dubt deserved the award. This year Felix's situation is sort of like last year's Greinke, the problem is that Hernandez will not even acheive 15 wins, and he has lost 12 games already. If we take a look at the past we will see that Pat Hentgen won the Cy Young with 10 losses, but the difference is that he won 20 games that year(1996). Felix is in a difficult place when we talk about wins and losses, but there is no doubt he has been the  most domminant pitcher of the American League, we'll have to wait until the voting ends to see what happens...

El lanzador de los Seattle Mariners Felix Hernandez ha sido sin duda el mejor pitcher de la Liga Americana este año,y asi lo demuestran sus numeros personales, desafortunadamente para él su equipo ha sido unos de los peores en ofensiva de las mayores, cosa que podemos constatar cuando vemos a Jose Lopez, quien estaba llamado a ser uno de los pilares ofensivos, bateando 240 de average, y asi hay varios en el plantel, es increible la falta de apoyo que ha tenido el valenciano cuando sube a la loma. El dia de ayer Félix completó su 30ma salida de calidad este año y se convierte en el segundo pitcher en lograr dicha azaña despues de que Randy Johnson lo hiciera en el 2002, ademas se mantiene lider en los departamentos de efectividad, y ponches.
Paradojicamente tiene record de 13 ganados y 12 perdidos, lo cual es algo casi impensable cuando vemos los numeros que ha puesto, pero la realidad es que la suerte no lo ha favorecido en  lo que se a refiere a apoyo ofensivo.

El año pasado Felix quedó segundo en la votacion al preimo Cy Young de la AL, detras de Zack Greinke quien sin duda hizo los meritos para ganar. Este año el Venezolano está en una posicion parecida a la que estuvo Greinke en el 2009, el problema es que Hernandez no alcanzará ni siquiera 15 victorias, y ha perdido 12 juegos; Si vemos hacia atrás, el unico lanzador que se ha adjudicado el premio Cy Young teniendo 10 derrotas es Pat Hentgen en 1996, pero ese año él ganó 20 partidos. La Situacion para Hernandez esta cuesta arriba en cuanto a ese departamento, pero sin duda ha sido el pitcher mas dominante de la liga americana, tendremos que ver como se desarrolla la votación al final de la temporada.
