Carlos Silva became the 2nd venezuelan pitcher to reach 8 victories in a season with no loses. This monday Silva faced the Pittsburgh Pirates during 7 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 run, with 5 strikeouts leaving an ERA of 2.93
Silva is also the second Cub to have an 8-0 record by the beginning of a season since 1967.
In his first season with the Cubs the Venezuelan pitcher is the bes of the rotation, after having the worst season of his career last year with the Mariners.
Silva is one of the pitchers with better command in the Majors, and the best venezuelan ever, he gives 1.70 base on balls per nine innings, thats under 2.40 which is Gregg Maddux avg, that's a lot to say isn't that?; this thrower keeps his pitches always in the strike zone and his main weapon is the low pitches, his fastball is between 88 and 92 mph, he also posses a change up and a curveball. The changeup seems to be helping him a lot this season and I think that's what is improving his performance so far. He does not fan alot of guys but he puts them out by making them hit grounders and flyballs keeping his deffense busy during the game.
we may say tha Zambrano wasnt missed as some people would have thought because of Silva's performance, and, of course, because of the performances of the whole rotation which have been doing an excellent job this year.
let us see how the rest of the season goes for Silva, this is a year in which the pitchers have been better than the batters, just to name some, the no hitter of Ubaldo Jimenez, the perfect games of Braden, Halladay and Galarraga even though this last one is not going to be in the record books
